The news we've been waiting for...

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Sergei Samsonov to a 3-year deal.

From the Canes website:

"The deal will pay Samsonov $2.3 million in 2008-09, $2.5 million in 2009-10 and $2.8 million in 2010-11."

In my opinion, that's a small price to pay for someone who got 32 points in 38 games.

And now Jon knows whose number will be going on the back of his jersey :)

Good news on Coley

After last night's accident, Cole had a negative CT scan and was cleared to fly w/the rest of the team to Tampa this morning.

What a relief. I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking that :)

I'm sure the team docs will be keeping an eye on him for the next little while. But it's good news all around.

Erik Cole

Watching the FL/Canes game tonight, about 12 minutes into the 3rd period, Erik Cole went headfirst into the ice/Tomas Vokoun.

For those who don't know, he had a broken neck the year we won the Cup.

They took him out on a stretcher... took him about 10 minutes to get him off the ice.

I hope it's not as bad as it looked, and that everything they were doing was precautionary.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The first stop on our NHL tour was the Air Canada Centre on October 18. 2007. The Leafs were taking on the Florida Panthers.

Leafs tickets are notoriously hard to come by, and we'd gotten ours of eBay. We paid $15 each over face value and were pretty happy with that. Our seats wound up being about 6 rows from the top of the Air Canada Centre, but we could see fine. The only problem was it was absolutely freezing up there.

The game was quite entertaining. We had a couple of middle-aged moms sitting behind us, and I was amazed at how much they just KNEW about hockey. People in NC just don't have those kind of discussions.

Fans booed whenever Bryan McCabe touched the puck...he'd contributed to a Leafs loss a couple of nights before when he scored for the opposing team. He redeemed himself by the end of the night by scoring the goal that tied things up and eventually led to the win.

The format of this blog is changing.

Clearly, I wasn't getting much use out of it as a dream journal.

So I'm changing it to chronicle our travels across the country as Jon and I attempt to see every NHL team play in their home arena.

Should be quite the journey :)

I'll probably also post about hockey in general here as well, when I get the urge.

I dream a lot about moving. Typically, we're getting ready to move to a new place, and the house is never packed. It's like one day before the move, and everything is all akimbo, nothing's packed, and everything is in disarray.

What could this mean? My first impulse is to think that I'm unprepared for something.

Dream Moods Dictionary
says the following:

To dream that you are moving away, signifies your desire or need for change. It may also mean an end to a situation or relationship and your are moving on. Alternatively, it indicates your determination and issues regarding dependence/independence.

My regular dream-time visitor came back last night -- Robert from high school. We were supposed to pick out a trip to go on, and he picked one that had something to do with bowler hats. (Yeah, I have no idea either.) Then, he decided he wanted to invited someone else to go on the trip with us, so I was going up and down the street (which was filled with deflating pastel balloons) to find Matt Van Hoose. I'm not sure if I ever found him though.

I feel like I dreamed almost all night. Everytime I woke up, I was in the middle of one.
